Recycling Technician – Job Description

JOB TITLE:     RECYCLING TECHNICIAN
FLSA STATUS:         Non-Exempt                                                                

JOB SUMMARY: Work in the operation of the Recycling Center which requires knowledge of the daily operation procedures including safe and efficient operation of recycling equipment.  Work is usually performed with minimum supervision.  Ability to unload and process recycled material, receiving the public, providing citizen assistance, and light office duties.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The following statements describe the principal functions of this job and its scope of responsibility, but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements.  Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods or otherwise to balance the work load.

  • Operates recycling equipment and front-end loader as required.
  • Operates scale system to weigh vehicles, determine fees and receipts.
  • Operate computer and standard office equipment.
  • Assists patrons, processes material in the facility.
  • Supervises county inmates.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Holmes County Board of Commissioners.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of recycling materials and procedures for Holmes County.
  • Knowledge of modern office equipment and practices.
  • Ability to communicate well with others.
  • General knowledge of Holmes County roads.
  • Ability to operation of heavy equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current Florida Driver’s License – CDL
  • Certified or able to be certified with Department of Corrections to supervise inmates.
  • Experience in operation of heavy equipment.

  • Work in this class may include sitting, walking, bending, stooping, and lifting weights of 65 lbs. or less unassisted and weights over 65 lbs. with assistance.
  • Work may include both indoor and outdoor activity where employee is exposed to elements of nature: cold, hot, rain, etc.
  • Employee must be able to climb, step over obstacles of nature: machinery, etc. 
  • Work will include operation of a motor vehicle.
